Getting Wet in Wales

We've finally managed to get away on another holiday, to the exotic destination of South Wales!

We spent a long weekend around Cardiff and Caerphilly, mostly visiting Castles and ancient ruins - no surprise there then!

Things didn't go entirely to plan though - it poured with rain (OK, so that was expected!), Sharon got ID'd trying to get a bottle of wine a mere decade after hitting 18, we got lost within 100m of our hotel, then after driving miles to get to the Welsh Hawking Centre there was no-one there to let us in! Oh, and due to the severe weather warning we decided to leave early so Craig lost the chance to see yet another castle. And of course we got lost on the way home after the main road was closed!

We did have a good time though, and will probably head back to Wales again in the near future.

Castell Coch was lavishly decorated in Medieval style by the Marquess of Bute, a man with far too much time and money...

Every fairytale castle needs a damsell in distress... And after a day of being cold and wet Sharon was definitely in distress!

On the outside it looked more like a Bavarian Castle than a Welsh one!

By the time he got to Caerphilly Castle, Craig was sick of driving, so thought he'd give flue-powder a try...

As usual, Craig found some armour to try on. For once, it actually improved his appearance...

The keep at Cardiff Castle - one of the few times it didn't rain!

After 5 years of living with Sharon, Craig had a natural affinity with Dragons... Ouch!

A host of golden daffodils... Well, a small tub anyway.

Caerphilly Castle had a dry moat until it started raining...
For once, there are no pictures of us scoffing food - probably because we encountered some of the worst food we've had on any of our travels (and yes, we're including Mongolia in the list of countries with a better cuisine than Wales!).

Sharon, you got IDd, did you? Lol! That's a nice thing to happen, in a way, I suppose! :)

Craig, so you were the knight in shining (hmmm, almost!)armour to the damsell in distress, were you?

Ah well, even with the castle and all that, this is not one from the fairy tales section of your travels, then, what with all the bad weather etc! But still a nice read, as always.
