Naples

As promised, here are some piccies from Naples and the surrounding area. It was freezing cold and poured with rain most of the time we were there, but we still managed to see some good stuff, and of course eat lots of pizza!

Palazzo Reale in the centre of Naples

Charles II of Bourbon's Palace at Caserta

Herculaneum. Sharon seemed to find 2,000 year old cobble-stones strangely exciting...

Mosaics in the baths at Herculaneum

Vesuvius looming over the town (loom! loom!!)

Portrait found at Pompeii, now in the Naples Archeological Museum

The Toro Farnese, now in the Archeological Museum in Naples, but originally from Caracalla's Baths in Rome.

Rome

As promised, a few piccies from our recent trip. First of all, Rome...

And apologies, but I can't be bothered to try and come up with any amusing/informative/vaguely interesting comments for any of them.

Us at the Colossuem...

And Craig being an idiot at the Colosseum...

Michaelangelo's Moses at St Pietro in Vincoli

The roof of San Giovanni in Laterano...

And inside it...

Caracalla's baths. Puts our local swimming pool to shame.

Sharon at Constantine's Arch

The Dying Gaul in the Capitoline Museum

The Roman Forum

Sharon at the Trevi Fountain

Michaelangelo's La Pieta in St Peter's

Stuffing his face with ice-cream became a regular activity for Craig...

When in Rome...

...eat as much ice-cream as you can! At least, that was Craig's approach... Although you can't afford to buy it by the kilo like we did in Argentina!

We've just spent a week in Rome, visiting all the usual sites - Vatican, St Peters, Colosseum, Trevi fountain, etc etc. We were having a great time, until Sharon fell ill, and spent most of the rest of the week confined to her bed. Annoyingly, this meant that Craig had to limit his visits to the ice-cream parlour in order to keep checking she was still alive.

Thankfully, Sharon got better just in time to get the train down to Naples, which is where we are now. We've had a great day at Pompeii today, and looking forward to going to Herculaneum and Vesuvius tomorrow. We'll have to wrap up warm though - it's absolutely freezing here!

Sharon has rediscovered her loathing of youth hostels, but we've only got a couple more nights here, and then we're getting the train up to Milan, and then on to Geneva.

We'll post some piccies once we're back, although with Sharon out of action for half the trip we will have to see what Craig's broken camera has managed to produce.
